My ADCC Amsterdam Experience and Polaris 30 Hype πŸ’ͺπŸ₯‹

Edition #7

Welcome back to The BJJ Insider, where I break down the latest in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitions and share personal insights to help you level up your game.

I'm Daniel Negru, a dedicated BJJ practitioner, coach and your guide through the fascinating world of grappling.

This week, we're diving into my recent ADCC Amsterdam experience and previewing the exciting Polaris 30 event.

Let's roll!

ADCC Amsterdam: Lessons from the Professional Division

Competing in the Professional division at ADCC Amsterdam was an eye-opening experience for me. Here's what I took away from it:

The Good:

  1. Event Setup: Top-notch organization and atmosphere

  2. Competition Level: Insanely high, pushing everyone to their limits

  3. Game Plan Execution: Successfully implemented my strategy early in the match

  4. Technique Application: Put newly trained guard retention techniques to the test

  5. The Fun: I documented all of it in the video below

The Challenges:

  • Lost in the semi-final against a highly experienced competitor

Key Takeaway:

Despite the loss, the experience was invaluable. Remember, setbacks are stepping stones to growth in BJJ. Always look for positives, even in defeat.

The Power of Competition

Competing isn't just about winning; it's about:

  1. Testing your skills against high-level opponents

  2. Implementing game plans under pressure

  3. Networking with fellow BJJ enthusiasts

  4. Gaining insights to fuel your training

I agree, loosing sucks, but it’s necessary for growth. Embrace it, learn from it, and keep pushing forward.

Polaris 30: Star-Studded Grappling Action

Here's what's got me excited:

Main Event: UFC Veteran vs. Current Star

  • Carlos Condit vs. Michael "Venom" Page (MVP)

  • A clash of styles

  • Huge test for MVP's grappling skills

Irish Talent Showcase:

  1. Jean Luca (Royal Grappling Academy) - Gi superfight

  2. Rosa Walsh - No-Gi superfight vs. ADCC trials winner Sula-Mae

Tune in on November 2nd and don't miss this opportunity to support our local talent on the big stage!

Wrapping Up: From the Mat to the Screen

As I reflect on my ADCC Amsterdam experience and look forward to Polaris 30, I'm reminded of why I love this sport so much. Every competition, whether you're participating or spectating, is a chance to learn, grow, and connect with the global BJJ community.

My semi-final loss at ADCC Amsterdam was tough, but it's fueled my fire for improvement. It's this constant drive to get better that keeps us all coming back to the mats day after day.

As we gear up for Polaris 30, I encourage you all to watch with a student's eye. Whether it's Carlos Condit's veteran savvy, MVP's unorthodox style, or the technical exchanges in the Irish superfights, there's always something new to pick up.

Keep training hard, stay humble, and never stop learning. Who knows? Maybe next time, it'll be you stepping onto that Polaris mat!
